The
region was already occupied
in the middle of the IV-th millennium BC
This
sediment core sample taken for pollen analysis by the insertion of a plastic
tube shows the two occupation layers (dark) separated by lacustrine loam.
The
pollens found by taking core samples in the lake
mud indicate by the presence of cereals and successive deforestation
that the Charavines region had already been occupied for nearly a millennium
when the village of Les Baigneurs was built.
The analysis of the wood even shows that prior to
the cutting down of the first trees needed to construct the village, the forest
on the shoreline was thinned out several times, most likely for the use of nearby
inhabitants, whose exact location around Charavines is not known.
