Origin
of posts determined by the dendrochronological analysis
The
trees used for the posts were cut in different locations in the neighboring
forests, in regenerated zones or in zones that had never been exploited.
Example
of the ecological grouping of series of posts cut down in the year 2666 B.C.
to modify house M3 and build houses M4 and M5.
Each series comes from a particular location in the forest.
We see that most of the trees were cut down in forests that had not been exploited
beforehand, in the primeval forest.
We know that the village previous to Les Baigneurs was nearby.
For the exploited forests, we are able to determine the date of exploitation:
they were all exploited before the village was set up here, hence while the
previous village was still active in the vicinity.
These forests provided the trees for the first constructions in the village
(23 years before the building of the Les Baigneurs village) and for modifications
5 years and 17 years later. This proves that the construction and living processes
in the villages were the same as those determined on the site.
